Jaye, John and I were in a California liquor store/Chicago style pizzeria about to buy a gallon of Bacardi dark, Jegermiester, Red Bull, 3 litters of soda and Hennessey which came up to about TWO Damn much dollars and Zero cents. We’d been complaining about the $4.30/gallon gas the entire five mile drive and started complaining about the inflated cost of the liquor that was would hopefully allow us to temporarily numb the pain of the pump and stress associated with a declining currency and job loss. John accusingly asked the Pakistani cashier, “why does this stuff cost so much!?” He was joking but the frustration came through loud and clear. The cashier took the money in nervous silence.
“George W. Bush! That’s why,” I said. Everyone laughed. It was a joke but the frustration was loud and clear.
I find myself wanting to blame George Bush for everything. The power of the president of the United States should not be understated, but to say that he is responsible for the two dollar increase of my Puerto Rican Rum is a bit of an oversimplified stretch. I would say the same about the Response to Hurricane Katrina. While there is no doubt it should have been handle better by FEMA & State and local government, I think it’s a bit of a stretch to blame Bush exclusively for that disaster.
For me, the “Weapons of Mass Destruction” data that prompted us to go into Iraq and the spinning of that propaganda must have more scrutiny. It was such a blatant deception of the American people and an attempted manipulation of the United Nations that it surprises me that more people aren’t upset about it. Bill Clinton was impeached for lying about getting a blow job from his intern but somehow the Bush administration have thus far remained untouched even though they concocted a lie that has so far not only killed over 4000 American serviceman, but also displaced and or killed million Iraqi citizens and subsequently created a civil war and an unprecedented number of terrorist attacks in the middle east.
The Bush impeachment is looooong overdue.
