Obama & FISA

Jul 3rd, 2008 | By admin | Category: politics

I know that Obama is one the strickest politicians on the 2nd Amendment (voting consistently against gun rights), I know that he has mentioned a few very expensive social programs, but none of that bothers me as much as his support of the FISA and the governments ability to spy on citizens.

Obama announced that he now supports the Cheney/Rockefeller/Hoyer House bill.  Like most Democratic puppets he is oppose to the part of FISA that immunizes lawbreaking telecoms.  With his move to the center I suppose the 4th amendment had to be let go for the greater good.  After all, the neo/conservative base is very fearful of what is BOUND to happen if every man, woman and child is not monitored by the government.  There is a war… A war on terrorism.  That is why we went to Iraq: to stop the Weapons of Mass Destruction (such as yellow cake) from Suddam/Al Quaeda terrorist that might suppress the liberation of the Iraqi people and threaten America’s national security.  We must win.  Winning means that we must monitor everyone in America to find the terrorist.

What is most unsettling about the Obama supporting the FISA bill (AT ALL), is that sheep like qualities on both sides.  The fearful “lets give up our freedom to fight for it” attitude among conservatives and the Obama “Kool Aid drinkers” who used to oppose FISA and now think its cool because Obama says so.

The joke is on me.  The real tragedy is that if a significant amount (not a majority, not half or even) of American citizens really cared about their actual Constitutional Rights candidates like Ron Paul and Bob Barr would actually have a chance.  Sadly, they don’t.  I don’t blame Obama, the GOP, the democrats, mainstream media or even American citizens.  I blame ignorance.  Despite the “Hope & Change” rhetoric NOTHING will change unless we all take the time to educate ourselves on what is really going on.  Until that happens we will be doomed to repeat the past.
